Trademarks, Taxes and Tacos
If you asked a professional speaker to share their favorite aspects of the business it would not be unusual to hear things like engaging with audiences or developing content. AND if you followed up that question to inquire about their least favorite aspect you might often hear things like bookkeeping, accounting, taxes, contracts, and trademarks.
Yet these are ESSENTIAL aspects of a having a professional speaking business.
Our October meeting is focused on these very essentials.
We will kick off the day with the topic of TRADEMARKS which will be led by Russ Riddle, known affectionately as the “Anomaly at Law.” Russ will share his extensive expertise and wisdom on protecting our intellectual property as professional speakers, why this is so important as you develop content, how you can leverage and monetize your IP, and what you need to get started. Russ has served four and half years on the National Speakers Association’s Board of Directors and is a past chair of both the Chapter Leadership Committee and SPEAKER magazine. Russ’ morning presentation will be a ’nuts and bolts’ overview for those who are new to the speaking business, and his afternoon presentation will take a deeper dive.
Additionally, we’re going to talk TAXES - and joining us for this segment will be Noel Willis of Wegner CPAs. Noel is a Senior Manager at the Wegner CPAs Madison office and when it comes to accounting, tax planning and compliance, business consulting and payroll, Wegner offers extensive experience with over 75 years in the business.
Rounding out the day, is a presentation and interactive program led by Cathy Ramos, a certified Profit First professional. From the book Profit First: Transform Your Business from a Cash-Eating Monster to a Money-Making Machine, author Mike Michalowicz has made it his mission to help business owners get their business finances in order and make sure their business is profitable, all while getting paid.
