Thou Shalt Dress One Level Above Your Audience (and other speaking rules that don’t exist)

We would like to thank all who were able to help us kick off our first chapter event in Madison this year! We would especially like to thank Kim and Jason Kotecki, who put on an outstanding program and gave us all much to think about in terms of rules we live by that don’t really exist. Thank you Kim and Jason!

Jason and Kim shared many great nuggets for us to think about in terms building our speaking businesses.
A few key ideas were:
  • Follow the rules if they make sense for YOU, if they don’t, then shape your own path
  • The fullness of your calendar does not necessarily equate to the success in your life
  • The size of your fee does not equate to the value you offer
  • If you aren’t motivated or excited about offering a certain product or service in your business, then don’t
What Kim and Jason were sharing is that, in this industry, we hear many “rules” regarding what will make for a successful career. They have found those rules don’t always pertain to how they have built their business.

They shared the importance of doing what works best for you. Shape your own path. Look at your life from a holistic perspective and take into account whose lives you are touching, and the difference you are making as you define your value. Know what matters most to you and build your business to fit your lifestyle.

The biggest take-away they shared with us is -- Go ahead and eat dessert first!
